Hot Tub in Spain - Buying, Are You Ready

Hot Tub in Spain - Buying, Are You Ready
By John E Lewis

Are you Ready to Take the plunge and buy a Hot Tub in Spain!

Now comes the interesting and perhaps exciting part…shopping, comparing, choosing and finally selecting. You may have many questions to ask just fire away. A dealer who knows his product will welcome them assuming of course he has a good product to market. Here are just a few pointers to make sure that you don t buy a pig in a poke or a cheap eastern import.

Firstly is the shell of the Hot Tub made of a branded American Acrylic such as Lucite or an equivalent. If the shell is made out of this kind of material it is your very own personal assurance that your choice of a Hot Tub will give you many years of beauty, pleasure, and satisfaction.

Always try the lipstick test on the shell and see if it just wipes off as it should? If it does not, then that gives you the clue that, the surface is slightly porous and as such will hold germs and bacteria. A well made tub will use Microban in its surface to eliminate bacteria.

If you can feel under the edge of the Acrylic round the edges of the Hot Tub you should do so and try and feel its strength or possible weakness, if it feels damp to touch or perhaps a little crumbly that gives you a very large clue that the shell is not properly cured. I personally would not buy a tub if the shell felt like that and I have seen many that fit that description, all of which have been, of Chinese manufacturer.

Quality manufacturers consider the long term of spa ownership when designing their products.

Manufacturers that use advanced manufacturing methods employ ABS-backed acrylic instead of the older style fiberglass and they are able to provide a much sturdier, longer lasting product. Not only is the manufacturing process that does not use fiberglass more environmentally friendly, but the stronger more expensive ABS backed shell material allows for elimination of foam shell support.

Many manufacturers use the lower priced standard Acrylic that must be supported with fiberglass and foam. The foam is referred to as insulation, but actually supports this lower priced shell material and it does not represent a “green” approach to long lasting maintenance, but is only necessary for the support of lower priced shell materials. Also we have heard it said many times that full foam is used to eliminate the noise of the water in the pipes. Well we are appalled to hear that as it must be a badly designed spa that needs that. It is just a cover story to hide the cheap out of date production methods.

As always it pays to probe beneath the surface and just do not accept the glib patter of some zombie like sales man or woman just repeating a polished script.

Secondly always try and buy a spa with Balboa Controls a company from Balboa in California one of the worlds leading manufacturers of Hot Tub Spa controls and well known for reliability and accessibility of spares even after 20 or more years.

Thirdly buy a spa which is made by a leading American or Western manufacturer preferably one with decades of years of experience and therefore they will have had the time and experience to be able to design and construct models where the components naturally work and blend well together.

Leading American and Western manufacturers have many decades of experience and have been able to adopt, adapt and improve on their technically advanced systems in order to be able to allow good performance from the pumps, heaters and blowers to give you the very best aqua flow to provide an excellent Hydro Massage and at the same time be as energy efficient as possible.

The latest designs in Water Jets are placed scientifically in order to deliver the best flow of water to your body s pressure points, while still allowing you to control the intensity of the flow and pressure as required.

Thus a good well designed and engineered product will lead to an outstanding hydrotherapy massage. One is able to enjoy a vigorous or perhaps soothing massage with the ability to be able to adjust and modify your massage experience to suit or enhance your mood as appropriate.

Look for proper branded acrylic and Balboa controls and aim for a manufacturer who has been making spas for many years. A very good Acid test is to see if your hot tub dealer is on first name terms with the owners and directors of the suppliers. Much more difficult or in reality impossible if they are based in China!

Landscape Drainage - How To Prevent Drainage Problems On Your Property

Landscape Drainage - How To Prevent Drainage Problems On Your Property

By: Susan Schlenger

A landscape design should include plans for landscape drainage. But how do you go about addressing this seemingly complicated part of a design?

Not only does water end up on your property from rain, but also from runoff from the roof of your house. The roof water runs into the gutters which are connected to the leader drains which are the vertical pipes on the outside of your house.

Occasionally, a house is designed so that the water rolls right off the roof onto the foundation stone. Perforated pipe is laid beneath this stone and pitched to lead the water away from the house.

Basically, the idea is to lead the water away from you house and also keep the water from collecting, or pooling, in an area.

So how do you go about doing this properly?

There are a few different ways landscape drainage can be handled.

1. Pitch all water away from the house at a minimum of 2%, or 1/4 inch per foot.

2. In areas where more intricate grading is necessary, create swales. A swale is basically a drainage ditch in the lawn which pitches away. It can be created in a subtle way so that it is not noticeable. It can be narrow or wide.

3. Lead water to a lawn drain. This is a drain box, set a little lower than the lawn. The water enters the drain box. Attached to the box is a solid pipe. The pipe travels for a distance underground and finally surfaces at a desirable area. The pipe should also be pitched properly.

4. Water can go directly into a perforated pipe. An example of where this might be used is in a planting bed. The pipe then connects to a solid pipe and is led away.

In addition, hardscape runoff can be reduced or eliminated by designing in a way that is good for the environment. Rain gardens are an excellent way to help with drainage. All of the above methods can lead to a rain garden, which is located at a lower elevation and contains wet site tolerant plants. A rain garden can be quite attractive.
